Customer requirements
Located in the heart of Southern Tunisia’s oasis regions, this initiative is a flagship Circular Economy project designed to transform agricultural waste into high-value green energy. By leveraging vast unutilized date palm (*Phoenix dactylifera*) biomass, the project aims to achieve 100% green energy self-sufficiency while contributing stable, renewable power to the Tunisian national grid.
- Feedstock Strategy: Sustainable utilization of trunk and frond waste.
- Annual Capacity: 100,000 – 120,000 tons of biomass (moisture content <15%).
- lStrategic Vision: Transitioning from waste management to a multi-revenue green energy hub, including power generation, biochar production, and bio-methanol synthesis.
- Integrated Pre-treatment: Biomass is crushed and pelletized/briquetted to ensure uniform density and optimal gasifier performance.
- Combined Heat and Power (CHP): Heat recovery systems are integrated to maximize overall thermal efficiency.
- Advanced By-products: High-quality Biochar output for agricultural soil remediation or specialized industrial fuel.
-
Value-Added Extensions
Global Export: Carbonized biomass fuels standardized for premium international markets (e.g., Japan).
- Carbon Finance: Comprehensive support for international carbon credit certification (Puro Earth, Carbon Standards International) to unlock voluntary carbon market revenues.
- Future-Proofing: Scalable pathways to convert syngas into Bio-Methanol.
> Key Revenue Driver: Electricity is sold via a Feed-in Tariff (FiT) of approximately 0.300 TND/kWh, supported by government renewable energy incentives.
Core Value Propositions
1. Diversified Revenue Streams
Unlike traditional power plants, this project generates income from four distinct sources:
- Grid Power Sales: Stable long-term cash flow via government-backed tariffs.
- Biochar Commercialization: Sold as a high-grade soil conditioner for oasis agriculture.
- Carbon Credits: Monetizing CO2 sequestration through global certification standards.
- Premium Fuel Export: Tapping into high-demand markets for carbonized pellets.
2. Environmental & Policy Alignment
Fully aligned with global decarbonization trends, the project is eligible for "Green Project" status, facilitating access to favorable ESG financing and international climate funds.
3. Comprehensive Technical Support
In partnership with Powermax, the project receives end-to-end support including:
- Full system design, installation, and technical training.
- Assistance with carbon credit registration and auditing.
- Off-take matchmaking with international buyers (e.g., Japanese industrial users).
V. Socio-Economic Impact
Beyond financial returns, the project serves as a catalyst for regional development in Southern Tunisia:
- Job Creation: Stimulating local employment in biomass logistics and plant operations.
- Energy Transition: Reducing dependence on fossil fuels in sensitive ecological zones.
- Agricultural Sustainability: Returning nutrients to the soil via biochar to enhance oasis resilience.
