Biomass Combined Heat and Power (CHP) – Powermax Efficient & Clean Energy Solutions

For industries and communities aiming to maximize energy efficiency and reduce carbon footprint, Biomass Combined Heat and Power (CHP) is the optimal pathway. By simultaneously generating electricity and capturing usable heat from a single biomass fuel source, Powermax CHP systems achieve overall energy efficiencies of 85% or higher—far surpassing conventional separate heat and power generation.

At the core of our CHP offering is the WUFBG Updraft Fixed Bed Gasifier, a technology purpose-built for high-moisture feedstocks and seamless thermal integration. Whether you need process steam for a factory, hot water for district heating, or thermal oil for industrial drying, Powermax delivers a complete, turnkey CHP solution.

Core Technology: WUFBG Updraft Fixed Bed Gasification

The WUFBG series is Powermax's flagship gasification system for combined heat and power applications. Its thermochemical design is inherently optimized for energy cascading.

How It Works:

Gasification: Biomass feedstock (wood chips, bark, EFB, bagasse) with moisture content up to 55% enters the updraft reactor. Through four distinct zones—drying, pyrolysis, oxidation, and reduction—the solid fuel is converted into combustible syngas.
Power Generation: The clean syngas fuels a high-efficiency gas engine or gas turbine, driving a generator to produce baseload renewable electricity.
Heat Recovery: High-temperature exhaust gas (500-600°C) and engine jacket water (90-95°C) are captured via heat exchangers.
Thermal Utilization: Recovered heat is delivered as saturated steam (up to 1.25 MPa), hot water, or thermal oil to meet on-site industrial or residential demands.

Why Choose Powermax for Biomass CHP?

Advantage Powermax CHP Solution
Fuel Flexibility & Moisture Tolerance Processes raw biomass up to 55% moisture (WUFBG). Eliminates costly pre-drying infrastructure and operational energy drain.
High System Efficiency Achieves 70-75% Cold Gas Efficiency plus thermal recovery, resulting in 85-90% Total CHP Efficiency.
Clean & Dry Gas Proprietary dry filtration system (Cyclone + Dual ESP) ensures tar-free gas, protecting engines and reducing wastewater discharge.
Economic Co-Products Produces marketable Biochar (10-15% of input mass), creating an additional revenue stream and improving project ROI.
Proven Reliability Technology validated in Vietnam and Philippines projects, running 8,000+ hours annually on undried feedstock.

CHP Application Scenarios

Powermax CHP systems replace fossil fuel boilers and grid electricity across a wide spectrum of industries:

1. Wood Processing & Panel Manufacturing
Need: Steam for drying kilns and hot pressing + Electricity for sawing/sanding.
Fuel: On-site bark, sawdust, and offcuts.
Powermax Fit: WUFBG system converts wet wood waste into steam and power, closing the loop on production waste.

2. Palm Oil Mills & Agricultural Processing
Need: Process steam for sterilization and digestion + Electricity for mill operations.
Fuel: Empty Fruit Bunches (EFB) and palm kernel shells.
Powermax Fit: High-moisture tolerance handles EFB (55-60% moisture) directly from the mill, providing captive power and steam.

3. Food & Beverage / Textile Industry
Need: Consistent low-pressure steam for cooking, washing, or dyeing + Electricity.
Fuel: Purchased wood chips or regional agricultural residue.
Powermax Fit: Modular Biowatt CHP units offer rapid deployment (7-10 days) for factories seeking energy cost reduction.

4. District Heating & Zero-Carbon Parks
Need: Hot water for community heating + Electricity for local grid support.
Fuel: Urban wood waste or forestry residue.
Powermax Fit: Scalable from 1 MWe to 10 MWe, integrating with ORC units for low-temperature heat recovery.
